Ladytron Were a Little Boring Last Night, Maybe It Was My Sober State

More photos by: Mandi McGee

I had never seen the Ladytron live before and was quite glad that they were doing some post-Coachella performances since they were one of few bands at the festival this year that actually made me kinda want to go, though not enough to pony up the cash for a ticket or deal with traffic.

The El Rey was filled to capacity last night for Ladytron, the show had sold out a few days ago and apparently people weren’t able to find any scalped tickets outside. Going on stage around 10:15pm they performed mostly songs from The Witching Hour and 604, highlights included; Playgirl, Discotraxxx, High Rise, and Sugar. They ended their set with Destroy Everything You Touch and did the obligitory encore that consisted of, True Mathematics, The Last One Standing and Seventeen.

I don’t know what exactly I was expecting from them but I left last night feeling a little underwhelmed. They sounded great but their performance was very stiff. I imagine that if I were to see them in a small club with a lot of friends, a more energetic crowd, and in a less than sober state I would really enjoy them and not care so much that they are so stiff and lack any real crowd interaction.

Ladytron perform again tonight in Pomona @ The Glasshouse.

A “Tribute To Black Flag” WTF?

Ok, so now the Spaceland website says that it is a “Tribute To Black Flag” playing with The Bronx on May 8th. Hey, aren’t tribute bands supposed to have a name that is a funny or differnt take on the original, that way people don’t think it is the real band playing. You know, like Led Zepagain, Iggy Stardust or Mini Kiss.

Damn, I’m a little bummed, but not suprised.

Wolfmother Performing at Tower on Sunset Tomorrow

I know I know, everyone and Maxim is writing and blogging about Wolfmother, hell, I posted a couple of times about them in the past too. But I feel like there’s no hurt in championing a good release. A lot of people seem to be complaining that it’s not all that original, though this just might be the genius of Wolfmother who perfectly blend Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Blue Cheer. After only one listen to the Wolfmother disc you already feel like you know the songs and on the second spin you’ll be singing along. There is a reason that Jack FM programing on radio is becoming so popular and all your non-music snob friends love those stations. It’s because listeners know all the songs, and there in lies the genius of Wolfmother who make you feel like you already know all their songs and have been listening to them for years.

Wolfmother’s self-titled full length album comes out tomorrow (May 2nd) and if you purchase your copy at Tower Records on Sunset (8801 W. Sunset Blvd) you’ll receive a pass that gives you entry to see them perform in the store that night at 7:30pm.
