Went to the Key Club last night to see what that band that has that song in the Snakes On A Plane movie and is played like 5 millions times a day on KROQ is all about. Why you ask. Because I had to go to LA to pick up an air mattress for my trip to Baja this weekend from my brother and I didn’t want to just turn around and drive back to Long Beach. And you know, just cause I could, is that a good enough answer.
Anyways it sucked as anyone reading might have expected and was exactly what I expected. I thought maybe The Sounds were going to play, maybe they did and I missed them, I don’t know. I got there around nine and there was some people on stage rapping and playing acoustic guitar, the only one I recognized was that singer from Fall Out Boy. Shitty. Then some kids with a keyboard and acoustic guitar played some really horrible Dashboard Confessional sounding stuff.
About at our limit, Cobra Starship played. It was pretty bad, the regular band (not the people from the single) and Gabe played 4 songs and then they got the guest performers from single (William Beckett of The Academy Is…, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, and Maja Ivarsson of The Sounds) to get on stage to perfrom the song, who by the way didn’t look all that enthused to be there. Is it just me or does that song’s chorus sound like the chorus in Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Gone” and the rapping part sounds like De La Soul’s part in the Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc.”.
After that Fall Out Boy was going to play, but we left. Thought about trying to catch Division Day and Birdmonster at Spaceland, but decided to just call it a night and went home.

Last night there were 3 shows I wanted to check out, Motorcycle Boy & Pretty Vicious @ Spaceland, For Those Who Know @ Silverlake Lounge, and Ghostland Observatory @ The Scene Bar.
If timed right and alcohol intake kept to a minimum it would have been possible to probably catch 2 of these acts. But unfortunately I went into freak out mode last night when I kept finding little bugs in apartment and couldnt find where they were coming from. It drove me nuts when I found the bugs, my apartment is always clean. There should not be bugs, dammit!
So like a speed freak I decided stay up all night cleaning my apartment from head to toe, which led me to completely bail on all my prior plans. Ok in addition to being a clean freak, maybe I’m a little OCD too.
Luckly some other bloggers made it out last night, check out Dan’s recap from Ghostland Observatory at the Scene Bar at Floating Away. I’m still waiting to hear how the other two shows went. Scott, how was For Those Who Know?
And the good news is Motorcycle Boy and Pretty Vicious are both playing again at Safari Sams on August 24th.
UPDATE: The bugs are still here, they are from the pigeons that live in the eves that are exposed and falling apart. In the words of George Costanza, “I thought we had a deal!” Anyways the landlord is getting on it, but this also might signal it is time to look for a new place.
Also Scott has thrown up a review of the For Those Who Know show at the Silverlake Lounge.

Two weeks into the release of their magnificent album “Carnavas” (which has sold approximately 3800 units so far, with only a 26% slide in the 2nd week) and half way though a US tour, the Silversun Pickups have announced more Fall touring plans.
Unlike their currrent tour now that has them hitting all the major metros with vibrant music scenes, this Fall tour will take them to some of the countries smaller markets where their draw will be tested, as well coming back to some of the major ones for a second time in only a couple months. Along for the ride will be Viva Voce.
