It’s not often I find myself in downtown LA, but last night after checking out Thailand and Radars To The Sky I decided to head over to La Cita for some drinks and to enjoy the sounds of Punky Reggae from the Part Time Punks crew. Being my first venture to the bar, I was really impressed, it doesn’t feel that LAish, less pretentious atmosphere and a wider variety of patrons than most LA bars. But I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything less from the guys that brought us the Scene Bar in Glendale.

A interesting post popped up in my feed reader from the Wired: Listening Post column this morning. Feedslice, developed by Johnathan Gill, will be a dedicated Band News RSS delivery service which will let fans browse band news items by genre, popularity, and tag, or by creating their own customized filter.
What’s also interesting is Gill is paying 4 cents a feed to anyone who contributes an approved official band news feed, check out the details here. **Note, MySpace RSS feeds are not accepted, though, in this day in age, Gill might want to reconsider, as most band websites are too technologically outdated to generate rss feeds and most bands have migrated to MySpace to broadcast their news due to the site’s ease of use and overwhelming popularity.
Read the entire Wired: Listening Post for more techy nerdy info and background on Gill.

Tomorrow night you will most likely find me at El Cid checking out Thailand and Radars To The Sky, two more bands you can add to the ever expanding list of Los Angeles bands to look out for. Also on the bill is The Hard To Get who I am unfamiliar with.
Thailand just put out their first full length, “Motorcade”, which I haven’t had a chance to hear yet, but will be picking up a copy tomorrow night. I fell for the band listening to the demos they had on their MySpace all last year, which have now replaced with shiny new versions of off “Motorcade”.
Radars To The Sky is a relatively new band that I have just been recently introduced to, they have a 5-song ep out, but I never get past the first song Long Walk Home ’cause I keep pressing repeat. Well that’s not quite true, but that song is really good, download it below.

If you are a tad underwhelmed by The Good The Bad and The Queen like I am, you might want to check out another Clash member’s current project, Mick Jones’s Carbon/Silicon.
Mick did quite a few interviews recently around the release of The Clash “Singles” Box Set (highly recommended), and in most of them he was able to slip in a little info about Carbon/Silicon, his current band with Tony James (Generation X). Reading The Tripwire this morning jogged my memory and got me on over to Carbon/Silicon’s website to download some tracks. Infact what is really cool about Carbon/Silicon (besides that it is Mick Jones and Tony James) is that they make all their recorded output free for download. As of now they have two complete albums available, A.T.O.M. and Western Front, with new music being recorded and rehearsed now for a possible tour this spring.

Click on over here to get the rest of the other two albums. It’s not all gold, but definitely worth your time.
