Well, I guess it isn’t any surprise. Did anyone see the show at The Roxy last night? Did it even happen? Now I am pissed I didn’t see her down in Austin. Well guess the Letterman performance will have to suffice for now. Get your shit together girl.
UPDATE: I guess she might have cancelled ’cause she thinks Spaceland’s stage is too small. Also from the info in that link, The Roxy show happened and was quite packed.
Oh, and one more thing.
Can I tell you that seeing Perez Hilton shove his ugly mug in a bunch photos with her makes my stomach turn (not even going to link, cause I think he is pile). He was on my flight back from Austin on Sunday…I had to prey that he didn’t sit next to me.

Monday, March 19th: Wolf & Cub @ Spaceland
Continuing on from SXSW and hitting NY next week, this dual drummer assault from Australia hits Spaceland’s free Monday. Their songs feel rough around the edges, but that is good. Definitely worth checking out, especially since they don’t come stateside often. Also at Cinespace Tuesday night.

Tuesday, March 20th: Amy Winehouse @ Spaceland
She is everywhere right now, you can’t open a mag without seeing her face. The UK buzz is translating to the US, will the record sales be next? We shall see. I missed her at SXSW but will be at this show, I really hope that she is not so drunk we get one of those much publicized crazy performances.

Wednesday, March 21tst: Qui @ The Knitting Factory
Like I wrote earlier, Qui was my favorite new band I saw at SXSW. Their live show is aggresive, loud, sparse. I can’t find a Qui mp3, but here is a Triclops! track, who are equally badass.

Thursday, March 22nd: Monotonix @ The Smell
My second favorite act from SXSW. Again this is something you shouldn’t miss, because you never know when they will be back again.

Saturday, March 24th: Big Business @ Troubadour
I just saw these guys 2 weeks ago at Detroit Bar, they absolutely punish you with their huge sound.

Funny that it was a band from Los Angeles that I saw 1000 miles away in Austin, that turned out to be my favorite SXSW performance. I was quite aware of Qui before wondering into their showcase at 1am on Saturday night at Emo’s, but I just hadn’t caught them live yet. I was actually at Emos to see Turbonegro, but my friend wanted to see Qui, so I tagged along to the other room because I had seen Turbo a couple times before and at that point in my SXSW week, I just didnt give a shit anymore.
The crowd was small, extremely drunk (a dude from big metal band was puking next to me…it was hilariously, especially when a girl later dropped her jacket in it and didn’t realize it), and loving evey second of Qui’s crazed performance.
Qui if you don’t know are from LA and semi recently added David Yow (Jesus Lizard) on vocals. They play the Knitting Factory in LA on March 21st, try to be there.
Earlier in the day I rolled over to FxFy #9 and caught in what I would term, the Japanese version of Gogol Boredello, a band called Asakusa Jinta, who put on insane performance in backyard of this run down house. They were extremely fun.

I basically spent all day Friday working and running around so when nightfall came and the official showcases started, I made it my number one point to check Monotonix from Tel Aviv, Israel, who I had read about earlier in the week in a review from Beneath The Underdog, of their show with The Rosebuds at Raleigh, NC’s King’s Barcade.
I cut my time short watching Georgie James, who were really good, to rush over to Flamingo Cantina to see Monotonix completely wow the entire place. The singer started out the set in a trash can, only to emerge and set the drummer’s high hat on fire (guess they never heard of the Great White thing), and then continued to thash about on stage, in the crowd, on the bar, before ending the set by wrapping his face in duct tape.
And that was the best thing I saw on Friday. Seriously check them out at The Smell on March 22nd.
