I’m trying not wear out the new Sea Wolf ep

Until recently I had put away Sea Wolf‘s “You’re A Wolf” in an effort not to spoil my love for the song, because you know how sometimes when a song is so instantaneous likeable, it is easy to wear it out, especially when the rest of the world catches on and you can’t escape it. Well I am glad to say “You’re A Wolf” is back in my rotation, though I am limiting my spins and making sure to focus on the 4 other new songs on Sea Wolf’s new ep, Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low, that comes out May 8th on Dangerbird Records.
Now it is easy to just focus on “You’re A Wolf”, but that would be unfortunate because that song isn’t representative of the rest of the ep, which has a (and this is for people who need reference points) Arcade Fire-Tom Petty-The Smiths feel with a more linear type of story telling, as compared to the melody based-short on words “You’re A Wolf”.
Following “You’re A Wolf” is “The Garden That You Planted” that sounds like a sorry note sent to a past lover and is derivative of the Sea Wolf we became familiar with from the earlier demos, “Black Dirt” and “Middle Distance Runner”.
It’s with songs the “I Made A Resolution” and “Ses Monuments” that the Arcade Fire-Tom Petty-The Smiths reference rears it’s head and is where Sea Wolf sounds like a full band. The ep ends with “I Don’t Know If I Will Be Back This Time” a quite little number that leaves you a little disappointed that the disc is over so fast, though maybe that was the point as a repeat listen to the ep is almost guaranteed.
