5/06/07…This Week In Shows

At the time of this post, Tour Bus was having some issues and wouldn’t allow me to get past the front page without getting some sort of proxy error, so this week you are on your own for specific show info, though I doubt many of you need it anyway.

Also, though I didn’t pick it, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club kick off their US tour on Tuesday night at The Wiltern, and thankfully, The Fratellis have canceled and have been replaced by The Black Angels. Funniest thing about this was the band’s statement regarding their cancelation, they said they were just plain tired from touring. Way to go dude. Way to give up the last 5 minutes of your 15 minutes of fame from your iTunes commercial. Good riddance, and thank you for making the BRMC bill all that much better with your absence and the addition of The Black Angels.

Rambling foot tappers and hand clapper’s, The Shaky Hands, from Portland, Oregon play one of LA’s worst places to see a show. Also at The Prospector in Long Beach on Tuesday.

Tuesday, May 8th: The Deadly Syndrome @ Chain Reaction
The first time I saw this band I had no idea who they were but was really impressed with their live show. When I found out it was The Deadly Syndrome I couldn’t believe it. Don’t let these ill-recorded demos deceive you, this will be the next big band to break out of LA. w/Monsters Are Waiting

Wednesday, May 9th: Codpiece @ Que Sera
Long Beach’s Codpiece just jumped up on my radar recently, kind of a Dinosaur Jr. meets Hüsker Dü sound. They play a lot of local shows at what’s left of the real punk and diy venues in Long Beach and Orange County.

Thursday, May 10th: The New Motherfuckers @ The Smell
Cat Dirt is hot for this band, and so am I. This Los Angeles quartet rips some classic late 70’s early 80’s sounding punk rock. w/Softbolied Eggies, Zodiac Death Valley

The New Motherfuckers – Hotlanta! (mp3)

Friday, May 11th: Dinosaur Jr. @ Troubadour
Of all the recent and current reunions/comebacks, Dinosaur Jr. are doing it the best and doing it right. Their new album Beyond is fucking fantastic. Also on Saturday and Sunday at the Troubadour.

Dinosaur Jr. – Almost Ready (mp3)

voniva_tn.jpg

Saturday, May 12th: Von Iva @ The Scene Bar
Von Iva are all sex, sweat, and swagger on stage, and it’s Jillian Iva’s soulful vocal delivery that sets this band apart from the rest of pack doing crunchy electric dance rock thing.
