I went and saw Earthless last night at John Reis’ Bar Pink Elephant down in San Diego where I happened to be for work this week. The show was so fucking good I felt the need to get on here and tell the local LA’ers that they NEED to get out to The Mountain Bar tomorrow night (Saturday) to see Earthless. They played a brand new jam and it was probably one of the most intense performances I have ever seen. I’m still too exhausted to write anything really articulate now, in fact, this is my second attempt at this post - the first was aborted due to my hangover.

See all my photos from the night here.

Black Mountain - In The Future

blackmountain_cov.jpg

To preface a review of Black Mountain’s In The Future with another storm based set up would be redundant, even though the conditions of this evening would deem it mighty appropriate. No matter, all weather analogies shall end with mentioning of the album’s opening track, “Stormy High”, a galloping banger that echos back to Grand Funk Railroad’s “Sin’s A Good Man’s Brother”. It offers up that intoxicating urge to keep your feet firmly planted while nodding your head up and down in unison with every other long hair in the room.

Things are taken down at notch on “Angels”, the slightly hypnotizing second track that features some great duel vocal verses between Stephen McBean and Amber Webber.

It is at start of the third track marker that Black Mountain begin to spread their epic wings. Read more »

Bowling is to blame for the dust!

In all fairness to myself, I did bring my laptop to Vegas with the intention of posting up some nice to things about the Pink Snowflakes and Entrance who both played Long Beach this last weekend.

It’s just somehow all that bowling, gambling, and booze got in the way those good intentions.

Also, a quick heads up that posting will be sporadic this week as I again will be doing some traveling, in addition to having to move the IfAN headquarters over the weekend.

Night Marchers shows in February

reis_pic.jpg

John Reis’ has a new band called Night Marchers, who in addition to Reis (Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Rocket From the Crypt, The Sultans), features Gar Wood (Hot Snakes, Beehive and the Barracudas), drummer Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes, Mule, Delta 72), and bassist Tommy Kitsos (CPC Gangbangs).

The band recently announced the release of their debut full length, See You In Magic, on March 26th on both Swami (Reis’ own label) and Vagrant Records.

And naturally, with a new release we need some live performances, and with that, a trio of local inaugural Night Marcher shows have also been lined up.

Feb 8th - San Diego, CA @ Bar Pink Elephant
Feb 10th - Long Beach, CA @ Alex’s Bar
Feb 11th - Eagle Rock, CA @ All Star Lanes

Listen to a new song (I don’t know it’s name, sorry) that Reis premiered on his radio show, Swami Sound System, last fall. By the way, this is a rip from the .wma of the entire radio show, which explains the shitty audio quality. But new jams is new jams.
