It’s been quite some time since we last heard from Long Beach’s BlowUpBlow, they haven’t played a show since last July and their last recorded output was the Supertonight 12″ single w/4-song bonus CD released last January. During their hibernation BlowUpBlow have been working on recording some new songs with Kevin Dean at Plyrz and The Compound, which should be released most likely as an EP sometime down the road. They also have contributed a track to the upcoming Fidotrust Records Long Beach bands compilation put together by Oscar and Jackie (Knives of the Official Disappointment, Bella Novela, Alex’s Bar) that will be released on April 15th.

Tonight marks the band’s return with their show at The Prospector with The Pity Party and Softlightes for Pull Your Pants Up! Expect a very full house.

Download “Get Anywhere” (mp3) from BlowUpBlow’s 2005 release, Sunshine on the Front Line.

Ticket Giveaway: Be Your Own Pet and The Raveonettes @ Detroit Bar

Enter to win a pair of tickets to see Be Your Own Pet and The Raveonettes at Detroit Bar on Sunday March 2nd

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for the young Nashville band, Be Your Own Pet, an abrasive pop punk group led by the fiery Jemina Pearl who spits biting jabs all those who’ve crossed her or are just plain old lame. Hell, if it’s good enough for Thurston Moore, it’s good enough for me.

BYOP’s new album, Get Awkward comes out March 18th and you can stream the song, “The Kelly Affair” (wma) or (mov), a nod to cult classic film, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

To enter to win a pair of tickets to see Be Your Own Pet and The Raveonettes at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa on Sunday March 2nd, just fill out the form below and tell us in the “message” box what type of animal you would like to come back as in your next life.

Be aware that the show is 21+ and is in Orange County.

Radar Bros. too loud for the neighbors

radarbros_pic.jpg

I was planning on going to see the Radar Bros. at the Orange County Museum of Art last night for the monthly Orange Crush event, but their performance (according to the Radar Bros. myspace) was canceled due to apparent [preemptive] noise complaints.

Orange Crush typically books Los Angeles area acts to play their events, usually snaging up ‘n coming bands just before they start to get national attention (Little Ones and Silversun Pickups come to mind at the moment). There is no word yet on the fate of the future events with performances scheduled by The Broken West and Summer Darling, but hopefully for the sake of the all the Orange County kids who don’t leave the OC for shows often (and why would they, that drive back home from LA late at night sucks), Orange Crush is able to continue.

Radar Bros. released their third album, Auditorium, at the end of January and like each release before, it has been a grower for me, but just as this show was approaching and the weather turning, I found myself really digging into it.

Well I guess there is always SXSW…
