Inflight At Night

LA / LBC / OC

Crystal Antlers, Mike Watt and the Secondmen and Morris Tepper at the Prospector this Saturday, Nov. 29th

[As luck would have it, I have been out of posting capacity all this week too and with Thanksgiving in a couple days, regularly scheduled posting won't resume until Monday, December 1st.]

In the mean time, GO TO THIS SHOW!

Nudity tonight at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach

Referring to what I wrote earlier this year after seeing Nudity at the Mountain Bar -

Don’t make the mistake of assuming a band with a name like Nudity is an ill-conceived late-to-the-party electroclash band, as you will surely miss out on some really exciting swirling psychedelic Hawkwind meets The Velvet Underground riding the MC5 express rock n roll…Pedal junkies and guitar effects freaks take note, Nudity is heavy on both and also make liberal use of the ebow.

- the only thing I might add to that description, after putting on their Nightfeeders 12″ again this morning, is to add a dash of CCR to that.

Spend your lunch break with Japanther today at the UCI in Irvine

Noon-time hoe-down starring Brooklyn’s Japanther and Arizona’s This Runs On Blood at the University of California Irvine in the Student Center Terrace. If you are anywhere in the area I urge you to check Japanther out, and if not, then see Japanther tonight at The Smell.

For Cheap (almost free); The Henry Clay People this Thursday at The Prospector in Long Beach

[I am pretty much incapacitated this week which will affect posting here for the next couple days, though I do hope to make it out to this show tomorrow night in addition to going to see Sleepy Sun at Alex's.]

The Henry Clay People’s new album, For Cheap or For Free, is the best album The Hold Steady didn’t put out this year, in fact it’s the album that I wish they had put out (so to speak) instead of super bland Stay Positive. With Cheap or For Free, The Henry Clays have crafted a masterful album of blue collar American bar rock that takes it’s cues from The Boss, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and The Replacements, and is the perfect soundtrack to making it through the 9 to 5 on into the night when you can forget about all the day’s B.S.

The Henry Clay People w/Paperplanes & Little Teeth @ The Prospector (2400 E 7th St) / 10pm / $5 / 21+

Helms Alee tonight at Henry Fonda with Minus The Bear; stream new song on Hydra Head blog

helmsalee_pic-1.jpg

Currently on tour with Minus The Bear (who’s new ep of acoustic renditions of old songs I didn’t dig so much), Seattle’s Helms Alee hit the Fonda tonight with MTB and The Annuals. Still supporting their debut release Night Terror on Hydra Head, the band also just released a super limited Lionize/Truly 7″, that you can stream the A side of on Hydra Head’s blog.

For more info on this still yet undiscovered band, see what I wrote about them back in July when they played the Relax Bar.
