I wasn’t able to catch these San Francisco by-the-way-of Athens, GA psychedelic scuzz freaks last week in Austin for SXSW, and damn, if I weren’t home nursing a nasty bug I picked up down there, I’d be at The Smell tonight for Long Legged Woman’s show with Dark Meat. I mean if the SFBG’s description of LLW as “a ratatouille of Neil Young-meets-Death-in-an-opium-bar: it makes you want to light your flannel on fire and throw it onstage” doesn’t pique your interest, then you just might not own any flannel.
Being toted along with the band is their new long player, Nobody Knows This is Nowhere, that was recorded early last year before they picked up and left Athens for a city with much steeper streets.
Pick up the new LP and Something is Pressing Against It from the Inside” b/w “Scalpels in the Sky 7″, both out now on Pollen Season, and available from Thor’s Rubber Hammer.

RAD BAND Wildildlife is playing in LA again this week! They played a show at Relax Bar, which is bullshit, on their way to SXSW from Seattle so I give an extra “good lookin’ out” to anyone with the good sense to check them out this Wednesday at Echo Curio 1519 Sunset Blvd. March 25 with Thickets and Sasqrotch.
I first became aware of Flower Travellin’ Band as the dudes riding motorcycles naked on the cover of Julian Cope’s book “Japrocksampler: How the Post-War Japanese Blew Their Minds on Rock ‘n’ Roll”. As striking as this image is, what really hooked me on this band was hearing their masterpiece album, Satori. Long before Boris, FTB was creating heavy psyche rock from the land of the rising sun. Imagine my surprise when I saw that they are on tour in the states. Out of all the kooked-out music biz bullshit that goes on at SXSW, here is something that is actually interesting, but surely will not make headlines for hipster music blogs next week. Flower Travellin’ Band plays Smokin’ Music @ 504 Trinity St. on March 19th during SXSW with certain followers Endless Boogie, Entrance Band and Radio Moscow. Try and look it up here. Now will someone please book a Los Angeles show!!!??? Pentagram reunion too, please.
