SXSW Day One

SXSW=2, reid=0. I am now officially down by two at SXSW when it comes to phones. And this time it is at no fault of my own. So I write this here as I wake up early to hit the Cingular store to beg an plead for a new phone and to hopefully not get charged (which they shouldn’t, warrenty is still on for like one more week).
But enough about that, yesterday was the first real day at the the SXSW music portion of the conference/festival/butt load of people in the streets event. This is my third year at coming down to Austin, and I can’t remember it even being this crowded last year, and I definitely don’t remember them closing the streets so early in the week. Needless to say things are already quite crowded and lines are long, in fact last night because I was hanging out with some friends that didn’t have wristbands or badges, we decided to just hit the local bar called, Sidebar, and keep it relatively mellow, especially since it didn’t look like they were going to be able to get into Emo’s to see Blonde Redhead.
Earlier in the day though, I was able to catch a few bands I have wanted to see for a long time, Office from Chicago (who I don’t think have ever toured out west), The Black Angels, who I have missed all the times they have played in Los Angeles, and I was also able to catch Apostle Of Hustle, who’s new album I love (see post below).
Today I will catch tons more bands, but first, it’s off to get a new phone.
For now enjoy this track from Office, called, Big Bang Jump (mp3).
